A few months ago I had an early morning photo shoot for Atlas Trail Series. An on location shoot with K a trail runner and myself. Early morning photo shoots are always incredible because of the soft morning light, rich colors, and the cool temperature. I remind myself of these elements that make for amazing photographs when my alarm goes off long before sunrise. I’m not a morning person. I love sleeping in all curled up in my bed. To make waking up and leaving for an early morning photo shoot easier, I layout my clothes and have all my gear ready and waiting for me by the front door.
Making our way along the trails we passed other trail adventurers. As we climbed and made our way around the hills I was loving that the fog hadn’t cleared and I tried to get as many shots. I loved how the fog and early morning light gave some of the photos a dreamy effect.
Either being up high or down on ground level I was able to experience these trails in a way that I have never. Hiking at different times and approaching a shot at different angles gave me perspectives that I could never dream of. It was a morning that I wished lasted longer to get a few more shots for Atlas Trail Series and my shop. This early morning photo shoot is a perfect reminder on why hitting the trails in the early morning is always ideal. And when it’s all done go home and nap!

Beautiful pictures and narrative…have you considered a job with National Geographic! Talking pictures and traveling around the world seems like an awesome job to me! Last year I went to an exhibit of the top 100 photographs from National Geographis..what an awesome show! Would love to go one year and see a Maureen Bates original!
